7 Ingredients for Prompts
Describe the Task - Clearly outline the task you want AI to accomplish. This sets a specific target and guides the AI’s actions effectively.
Establish Limits - Are there things you want AI to avoid doing? Clearly outline those as limits. Example - want to reduce cost by 10%, but avoid recommending laying people off? That’s a limit.
Give Context - Provide background information relevant to the task. This helps the AI understand the broader picture and nuances.
Specify Requirements - Specify how you want AI to interact with you. Have it adopt a specific tone in writing, present ideas with numerical bullets in order of priority, generate a table organizing information, etc.
Assign a Persona - Asking AI to adopt a persona allows it to simulate how that person might respond. Ask it to act as a board member, your ideal customer, or a critical stakeholder. It will simulate that person in accomplishing your task. This get’s you outside the box and helps you spot potential blind spots.
Ask AI to Interview You - This is our favorite ingredient when using AI for strategic thinking. Put AI in the driver’s seat and have it interview you to pull the relevant context out of your head so it can accomplish the task you described. You will find this also helps you clarify your thinking. It’s a powerful ingredient!
Explain Why - When asking harnessing AI as your Thought Partner to generate ideas, ask it to explain why it is making a recommendation. This helps you understand the logic behind it’s answer so you can make an informed decision as the Thought Leader.
